Dr Ali Badiei
Senior Lecturer in Building Services and Renewable Energy

Howell Building 102

  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Research area(s)

Having successfully completed his MSc, Ali was offered an EPSRC funded PhD to design and develop a novel assessment procedure for energy and environmental performance of UK dwellings. The modelling platform he developed was capable of overcoming shortcomings of the current Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) of the UK government by introducing a dynamic, swift and more accurate assessment of dwellings using already available EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) data at national scale.

After completing his PhD in building energy research, Ali joined the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) at the Energy and Environment Institute (EEI) of the University of Hull as a Research Fellow. It was in this role that he further developed his professional and research skills through design and development of various HVAC systems for domestic and commercial buildings, management of human and financial resources, leading multi-national teams to deliver complex projects, and commercialisation of the developed technologies through B2B marketing.

Besides the engineering and management activities to ensure successful completion of projects, Ali has transferred project findings to a wide range of colleagues and students by designing and delivering technical workshops, organising conferences, and delivering lectures. Ali has also supervised several MSc and PhD students to carry out innovative research, publish scientific articles and dissertations, and prepare for future careers.
